Course Title: Comparative Education

General goals:

to explain what Comparative Education is as a science, university discipline, research field and problem-solving tool
to broaden students’ views of education worldwide
to train students how to do their own comparative education studies
to show students how not only to describe but to explain as well while comparing
to help students to better understand education in their own country on an international comparative perspective

Objectives:

to present the history of Comparative Education around the world – main periods from the Ancient to present day, distinguished comparativists and their most important writings, main trends

to present the history of Bulgarian Comparative Education

to focus on the main theories, approaches, methods, and models of comparison

to give information about education systems in 15 to 20 countries worldwide on the following aspects: aims, management, finance, structure, teacher training

to explain what the main forces for national peculiarities are

to help students how they can obtain such information on their own

to present and explain the current education system in Bulgaria

to compare the education system in Bulgaria to other countries and to show the common features, similarities and differences in the aims, management, structures, finance and teacher training
