General goals:

  • to explain what Comparative Education is as a science, university discipline, research field and problem-solving tool
  • to broaden students’ views of education worldwide
  • to train students how to do their own comparative education studies
  • to show students how not only to describe but to explain as well while comparing
  • to help students to better understand education in their own country on an international comparative perspective

Objectives:

  • to present the history of Comparative Education around the world – main periods from the Ancient to present day, distinguished comparativists and their most important writings, main trends
  • to present the history of Bulgarian Comparative Education
  • to focus on the main theories, approaches, methods, and models of comparison
  • to give information about education systems in 15 to 20 countries worldwide on the following aspects: aims, management, finance, structure, teacher training
  • to explain what the main forces for national peculiarities are
  • to help students how they can obtain such information on their own
  • to present and explain the current education system in Bulgaria
  • to compare the education system in Bulgaria to other countries and to show the common features, similarities and differences in the aims, management, structures, finance and teacher training
